Here is the interview with Tom Söderlund , wich focuses on “A Different Game” history, projects and GhostWire.
- Can you tell us something about A Different Game? History, etc.
“A Different Game” started about a year ago, by three “veterans” from the
mobile games industry - each of us has 7-10 years of experience of mobile
games.
Myself, I co-founded the studio It’s Alive, which did the world’s first
location-based mobile game “BotFighters” 9 years ago.
Martin Forsling, another founder of A Different Game, was previously CEO of
Synergenix and later the Swedish manager of Oberon Media Mobile.
Anders Bergman, the third founder, has been a producer and game designer for
mobile games for several years.
We will explore innovative game designs as well as new business models for
games. Mobile games will be a part of that, but other platforms will be used
as well.
- How many people are working on your games? Is that only you, or you have
a team?
We will work on a project-by-project basis at A Different Game, and we don’t
intend to build a big studio. The *Ghostwire* team is currently 5 people,
and I estimate that around 10 people will be involved in the game before
it’s finished.
- Are you working on other projects except the Ghostwire game?
Well, we are helping (not producing ourselves) on a new location-based
strategy game. We cannot reveal more at this point.
Personally, I am also involved in the exercising game “Zyked” (www.zyked.com),
but this falls outside the scope of A Different Game.
- Will Ghostwire be only for N-gage 2.0, or is planned to make it for
other platforms, such as Java, iPhone and so on..?
N-Gage is first priority, but I wouldn’t exclude other platforms for the
future. However, J2ME will probably be excluded, partly because of the
performance, but mainly because of the horrific fragmentation of the
platform.
- When it will be released? Do you have a beta-version?
Ghostwire will be released “when it’s done”, and we won’t sacrifice quality
to get it out sooner. I would not recommend hoping to see anything before
later 2009. No beta version exists yet.
Thanks Tom
